Sexual Health FAQs

Answers to common questions about sexual and reproductive health

In most states, you can access birth control services without parental consent starting at:

  • Age 12+ for condoms and emergency contraception
  • Age 13+ for prescription birth control methods
  • Any age for confidential STI testing and treatment

Our services are completely confidential, and we will not inform parents/guardians about your visit unless required by law.

Recommended STI testing frequency depends on your sexual activity:

  • All sexually active adults: At least once yearly
  • New partners: Before unprotected sex and 2 weeks after
  • Multiple partners: Every 3-6 months
  • MSM (men who have sex with men): Every 3-6 months
  • Pregnant women: At first prenatal visit

More frequent testing may be recommended based on your individual risk factors.

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis):

  • Daily medication to prevent HIV infection
  • For people at ongoing risk of HIV
  • 99% effective when taken consistently
  • Requires HIV testing every 3 months

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis):

  • Emergency medication after possible HIV exposure
  • Must be started within 72 hours of exposure
  • Taken for 28 days
  • Not 100% effective but significantly reduces risk
